This is quite different than your regular plugins. DesignDesk is a new concept that will help you turn your ideas and concepts into working organized projects. Sounds exciting? Well, imagine working on a project in which you have to open multiple applications, navigate to too many files. Doesn't it give you a headache just thinking about how to organize such a large project? On top of that, imagine if you have to revisit that project after a few months or years and find that some files are missing. Yes, I know you have back ups but is it there or missing? There are too many questions. Personally I find it a big waste of time looking for the missing files / objects of a large project when we could have organized everything in a proper way to begin with. Well, this is where DesignDesk comes into picture and is going to provide some "Peace of mind". It's a combination of project repository, design toolkit and collaborative platform. It will help you gather all your project files in one repository, allow you to work on them with a bunch of included design tools and then package everything into one neatly organized package. It cannot be any simpler than that :-)

DesignDesk concept is simple – choose your tools, gather your files and allow all of your tools to access those files. Finished with the project? No problem, just click a button and your files then get packaged for you. Working collaboratively? Awesome, just package up your project and push it to one of many different cloud services. How exciting.
The theme for April 2013 KVR Cafe Contest was:

Flash Forward/Future Sound

This month you are asked to submit an entry from fifty years in the future. You may (but are not required to) build a time machine or you may use your imagination to reproduce and/or invent the future sound of KVR.

I had two different ideas to start with; 1. Peace and 2. Automated music machine. I started working on both the tracks. Unfortunately, the second one didn't go anywhere beyond the intro. So ended up submitting Peace. The vision that I have for 2063 is, no war or terrorism. No religion, no caste, no discrimination. Everyone will live peacefully. Air will be fresh, water will be pure and music will be simple.
very evocative of the title, and one polished mo'fo of a piece…..really enjoyed it, not much more to say…it just works
So glad people will still be makin' love in 2063. Very polished. Great selection of sounds. Excellent composition. All around really liked it.
forw not my cup of tea but sounds/mixing etc. is just very convincing
Refreshing utopian concept and a really good song. Lots of tasty production elements. The drums and bass groove were well done, but their sharp attacks distracted me from the concept. Would have preferred if the track remained with the beautiful peaceful mood of the first fifty seconds.
Wow, precious beginning. Well mastered and good composition. A sensual jazzy touch with the brass section.

Punchy sounds, a nice jazzy vibe, phantastic saxophone towards the beginning. Wrote this demo track for SuperCore2. An upcoming synth by Mike Felker aka Karmacomposer. Mike wanted a cinematic track, I hope I did justice. Created most of the sounds from scratch for this track. Drums were created from a few loops outside of SC2. All the presets were submitted to Mike. Hopefully these will be part of the factory presets. Enjoy!
Detective Gordon: Hello Mr. Alex, I am detective Gordon. I am investigating this case and need to ask you a few questions. How did you end up in that house?
Mr. Alex: Hi detective. I hate flying so I decided to drive to Selveda which is only 4 hours away. I was crossing through the forest when it started raining hard and suddenly my car broke down. I reached for my cell but there was no signal. I looked around and saw this house not far away. Faint light was coming through the window upstairs. I saw a shadow moving. I headed towards the house, knocked on the door but no one answered. I was about to return when the door opened. I asked "is anyone here?" as I stepped inside. The door suddenly slammed shut, I looked back but saw no one. Somehow, I could not shake this eerie feeling of being watched. I slowly start moving towards these faint voices which were coming from upstairs. I remember stepping on a toy, then I heard giggles of a small child. Something inside me was telling me to go back but I kept walking towards it. It was like the voices were beckoning me and leading me towards something.
Detective Gordon: then what happened?
Mr. Alex: I heard melancholy cry of a woman. I felt as if someone was standing right behind me. I could feel and hear the breath of someone on the back of my neck.
Detective Gordon: then?
Mr. Alex: I heard a loud scream. Someone hit me and I fell down the stairs. I couldn't move, just lay there. Next thing I remember is waking up here in this hospital.

Technical Details:

DAW: Sonar X1

Plugins: Dimension Pro, WusikStation, SampleTank

Effects: Sonitus Reverb, ProChannel Compressor and Eq, T-Racks 3 for mastering

Sa Nyu Wa is the eagle point in Grand Canyon West Rim where they have made the Skywalk. It means home of the eagle. I took the above picture during my vacation in GC last year. It's an amazing place. If you look closely to the center of the above picture, you will see the mountain is shaped like an Eagle, hence the name. Hope you enjoy the track.

Used 14 instances of Dune (Beat Edition) to create this track. It's an amazing plugin. The first thing that caught my attention is it's CPU usage. It's a highly optimized CPU friendly plugin. I didn't have to bounce any track until I was almost finished with the composition. I can never say that for many other plugins that I have. I bounced the tracks only during mixing as it started stuttering when I added loads of effects.

Composed this track for KVR Cafe Contest, Aug 2012. The theme for the contest was

A Day at the Beach / Beachsongs Only - You've just had (or you are having or you are looking forward to) a day at the beach. Sun, sand, water, maybe eyefuls of skin, maybe corn dogs, skittering garbage, bits of glass . . . Tell us about it.

This theme reminded me the Philippines trip. I have been to several beaches but this trip always comes to my mind when I think about the beach. In 2009, I visited Manila for 6 weeks for project work. While I was there the local project team arranged a team event and we all went to Batangas. I forgot the name of the resort but it has a nice beach at the back. We spent the morning and major part of the afternoon in the team events, water sports, etc. By evening I was very tired and was sitting at a secluded area of the beach. As it was little away from the public, it was calm and quiet. Sitting there all alone enjoying the sunset, the crystal clear sound of waves. I remember I was going through some mixed emotions. While I was missing my family badly :-( at the same time I was bit happy to have met some nice people. I tried to capture my mixed emotions in this track. Hope you will enjoy listening.
Kirnu is a free MIDI arpeggiator plugin developed by Arto Vaarala. It's one of the best plugin of this kind in the market. It boasts:

Easy realtime tweaking

User friendly pattern view

MIDI learn for every major control

Two independent CC controls with 'teach' functionality

Numerous of different scales

Hold mode

+ Many, many more great features

If you don't have Kirnu, use the following links to download the current beta. What? you don't like beta versions? Ok then, you have to wait for version 2 which is under development for some time and at this point I am not sure when it's going to be released. Secondly, it may not be free as the current version. I have been using the Beta and it's working like a charm. There is no harm in trying. Anyway, it's up to you.

32 Bit Beta or 64 bit Beta

Now lets move on to the presets. I am not going to take a lot of time in talking about it cause you can watch this video which will give you a better idea :-). I hope you enjoy these presets.

Notes:

All the sounds in the video is from Dune BE.

These are all one finger arps, please be careful with the presets that has "CD" in it's name. It means it uses the chord function of Kirnu so the notes will be doubled/tripled over the octaves. E.g, a triad will play 6 or 9 notes depending on the octave setting. May not sound pleasant all the time.

Use Reverb, Delay and Filters to make it even more interesting.

I would love to hear from you if you find them useful. Don't worry you can use it in your production but I would appreciate it, if you could credit me and provide a link to my blog.

This was my entry for June 2012 KVR cafe contest. The theme for the contest was a picture taken in 1958/59. Yes, the one that you see in the track picture above. Now imagine the scene after, the scene after she takes her hand off of her eyes. What does she see? futuristic warships, strange looking objects flying, strange looking creatures everywhere. Humans being tortured, killed and taken as prisoners. Who are these people? Aliens? Oh, they have invaded us? Are they trying to take over our beloved planet? Too many questions crops up in her mind, just as she tries to get a grip on herself. she sees her son, aliens trying to capture him. Poor little boy fighting to get away from them. She cries out for help. She runs towards them, fights with them with all her strength, tries to rescue her son but it's hopeless. They are powerful, she cannot do anything. They throws her out of the ship and takes her son with them. Just as the ship disappears into the sky, she lies there helplessly, tears running from her eyes. The memories flashes back in her mind. The beautiful memories of her son playing.
oddbod:
This is certainly very well produced and powerful piece of music in the style of modern age blockbuster movie soundtracks and it would work very well in that context. From a personal point of view however, as a piece of stand alone music, I'm afraid it doesn't really do much for me.

evo2slo:
Great percussion and very nice arrangement. Excellent cinematic production. Love those strings. The helicopter sound is a nice touch (though perhaps not appropriate for the time period from the photo?) - I didn't realize on first listen it was in the recording because of the police helicopters that fly over my house literally every night where I live in Philly.

4lb Kitty:
Very cool! Great sounds, great composition, tons of emotion. Great track!

Lynn:
I like this piece of music very much. Besides being so cinematic, the theme and arrangement just works for me. It has a lot going for it - it's short, sweet, and dynamic. Good luck in the contest.

I would be making chit up if I tried to crit this. I think its brilliant. I dunno how you made it, don't care. I may hire you when I make the movie for TOMM

Very nicely done and a great sound for the picture you were suppose to use in its creation. Fit very nicely from what I could see and hear. Nice work and good luck on the contest. Peace be with you. Blessings, John

I had been toying with the idea of creating a soundtrack since a long time but never really gave it a try. I was highly motivated when I saw the Cinematique contest webpage at Rekkerd.org. The challenge was to create a track similar to the demo tracks available on their website. The theme of the track is "Hide and Seek". Used Sonar X1D expanded and Dimension Pro, Free Soundfonts, etc.
Nice instrument sound. Very authentic and yes progressive. Would add to my playlist.

Laguna Rising:
Wow ! I like it, I had a couple of listen, and it is convincing: very good composition for its structure and melody. You kept the arrangement rather simple and avoided the temptation of doubling all parts with different instruments. That's good. Very effective
Well done, Cheers

Another contest? Oh yes and this was a lot of fun. The challenge was to create a mini patchbank with no more than 8 patches for Diva. Diva is a synth plugin created by Urs Heckman (www.u-he.com). It models components found in some of the great monophonic and polyphonic synthesizers of yesteryear. One gripe that I have about this synth is it drains the CPU. Urs and his team working on it to make it better. Anyway, I submitted a bank called "91 Newage bank" with 8 presets.

This bank ended up at #4.
Submitted this track for KVR Cafe Contest, March 2012. The theme for the contest was:

This month you are asked to submit a hypnotic entry. What does that mean? Let's find out.

Sadly, the track didn't get enough votes, most of the people complained that it didn't fit the theme. It ended up at #27 out of 31 with 21 points.

Lovely evocative piano and bells at the start. Definitely too up tempo to be hypnotic once the drums kick in. And too much variation also. Submitted this track for KVR One-Synth-Challenge contest, Sep 2011. The challenge was to create a track using only Zebralette synth. The contest celebrated the move of Zebralette plugin from the commercial Zebra package to a free plugin. The contest saw the record entries of 41 tunes. Sadly, my tune ended up at #17 scoring only 10 points :-(. Never mind, may be next time.
The purpose of putting it in my blog is two fold. 1. It will help all the EnergyXT users, also other DAW users cause the concept is same and 2. it uses Preset 10 from the 16 presets that I released some time ago. It's a great motivation to see your work being useful in some way or the other. I am thinking of creating some more patches for Kirnu. Watch the blog for the update some time in March.

So, without any further ado, here is the the video:

Trance and z3ta+ goes hand-in-hand and it's always been considered as the most suitable synth for that genre. But, that's only partly true, it's capable of creating a wide variety of sounds that can fit into other genres. There are loads of presets available in KVR and patcharena. Even with my limited knowledge on sound design, I didn't find it very difficult to program either. Built-in effects in z3ta+ are good if not great.

I started off with auditioning the presets first and believe me there are some fantastic presets available in the factory soundbank. To my surprise, it failed to inspire me. May be "inspire" is the wrong word but I struggled to come up even with an idea until the end of the month. I almost gave up. I gave it a last try just before a day of the deadline and finally came up with the following track. It's called "Welcome z3ta+". It's my way of saying "Okay, we didn't start off well, it wasn't love at first sight but now I welcome you into my world" :-).
bjporter: Pros * Nice down tempoish sounds… Some really cool sounds like the one at 2:44, the twirly whirly high FX. Nice pluck at 3:00. Would have like to hear a tad more reverb on some sounds. This song really catches on to me after a while especially after 2:45.

Stumbled upon this Neuro drink song competition the other day. They need an original song for their :60 second spot “Candy Shop”. Well, it’s been a while since I have been thinking of scoring a video. The timing couldn’t be better. To be very honest, the video is not that great. After 15 second it looks like they’ve stitched some random clips together. It doesn’t represent the product well. Initially I had a hard time to come up with something cause the first 15 seconds are poles apart from the rest. After so many different tunes, I finally ended up with a Drum & Bass track for the spot. To me it fits nicely to the later part of the spot and in the beginning I used some pads, etc to build up the theme. Here is the final video:

Some reviews from the Cakewalk / KVR forum:

mike_mccue: It seems like you are spot on right up to 31 seconds... you are hitting the cues and building excitement. After 31 seconds it's redundant and ambiguous... which is an ironic match for the actual product which seems to be a color coded sugar something ambiguous experience. I don't have a suggestion because I don't think the video cut offers much to work with. It's a 30 second commercial in a 60 second container. If anything I think you might try to build a second rise of excitement for the second act that is nearer the end of the time slot... but I'm not sure how to cull that from the visuals because they are sort of matter of fact after 31 seconds. Perhaps explore the idea that "nuero" lets you express your self as many things by bringing in different cues for the various activities.

Starise: Nice job there. I think I gained 5 pounds just watching the first part.

LpMike75: I like it, nice job. If your looking for suggestions I think it would be cool to do something when the motorcycle scene slows down, but what you have done works and sounds good.

Rimshot: Good job. There are two parts. First part is good. Second part fit well but needed a guitar solo or some crunch to match the excitement onscreen. Then, stop the beat drop way back when fade to the family ocean scene with some big swells. So you would have candy (pads and swirls), action (big guitars), ending (swell to major chord). That's my take. Was it fun to do?

Janet: I don't watch that much TV, so I'm prolly not a good judge, but I thought it was well-done. I fleetingly wondered if you could have done something more laid-back when the girl was smelling the flower and the people were running in the surf. But they were on the screen so short a time, I'm not sure how you'd do that in the middle of that great beat. Anyway, well done! Oh, and the music is perfect when those two pieces of candy smash into each other. Great build up! Did you mean you couldn't view the frames while writing the music? Then how did get it to line up so well? Just view it in another player?

I am not a big fan nor had any prior knowledge of this genre, hence had to do some research. Read a few articles before started working on this track. I tried my best to stay as close to the genre as possible and came up with the following track. It’s called “Destroy”, basically a demon/satan who wants to destroy the world. I never expected that it would receive some good reviews and votes but to my utter surprise it did and ended up at number 14 out of 22 tracks. Well, not a big achievement but cannot complain either.

Gremsongs: Love the guitars!! This song drives!!

adj: Almost destroyed my earphones :-D
So, what is Industrial music anyway? Here is the Urban dictionary definition:

Industrial Music is difficult to define but it has to do with experimentation, improvisation, and pure noise. Is about programing hard noisy sounds on samplers, scratching the guitar strings by adding distortion and phaser, hitting hard on metallic devices, and screaming or talk loud on a voice machine.satYatuneshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18359958270880452781noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6872891699473766016.post-73065782631808115512011-08-06T13:39:00.000-07:002012-09-02T12:25:09.767-07:00'Summer Rain' music video.

- OSC stands for One Synth Challenge.
- The challenge is to create a track with just one virtual synth for all sounds and percussion.
- External effects can be used, but only from host or easily available freeware.
- Contest runs monthly on KVR Audio forum.
- Winner is selected by voting

This was my entry for Superwave P8 One-Synth-Challenge, February 2011. It’s a very good synth capable of creating a wide variety of sounds.
Reviews and feedback (Copied from KVR Audio Forum):

Happy Frog: Outstanding very beautiful piece and well produced you have a great ability to get great hats etc., sound out of this VST nice work great

bjporter: Like: Great strings in the intro. The lead is really beautiful, and fits perfectly with the melody. Interesting melody, keeps one into the groove. I feel like I'm on a trippy high school field trip to pluto or uranus. Nice use of saw pad. Interesting bassline - integrated very well, didn't notice it until later. Absolutely love the bass and kick combo, because it feels very heavy on the thump. You feel the low end. The pads and melody around 2:00 is simple but awesomely effective, and really pulls this part of the song together, and changes it up effectively.
Con: I wish that saw pad in the back was a bit louder, because that was a nice touch. Wasn't fond of the percussion, but the rhythm was effective, and pulled the song together. In the beginning of the breakdown around 1:00-1:06 there's a melody that doesn't quite seem to fit, or maybe needed a change of notes for me to really feel it. However at 1:30 it really picks up again melodically.

Doc Jon: small but perfectly formed!

Yeager: SOLID! good compo/sounds, good production.

capdanX: nice melody, like someone already wrote, this is what Superwave P8 is invented for, nice lush supersaw sounds but I also like the snare (4-5)

tattiemannie: This is so powerful! All sounds are strong but that snare cuts deep!! On reflection having listened a few times and enjoyed the snare, it is perhaps in a place which throws a false perspective on the tonality of the whole, but it gets my blood pumping all the same.

This is my first attempt at creating skin for a VST plugin. I created two Reaper themes earlier and have a pretty good graphic design experience under my belt but never created any skins for VST plugin. You must be wondering why Stereo Chorus? Well, first of all, Blue Cat has a nice framework for their plugin skins. It uses XML files for layout and they’ve a very nice skinning manual and a few tutorials on their website. Secondly, it’s a small plugin so was an obvious choice to start with. I don’t know when it’s going to be available on their website but for the moment, you can download these here:

Copy the downloaded folders to your skins folder within Blue Cat’s Stereo Chorus plugin folder. Select the XML skin file through the menu. You can access the default menu by right clicking on the GUI while using these skins. That’s all.

If you have never used Stereo Chorus plugin, then please visit the Blue Cat Audio website for more info and download links. They have other free plugins available as well. satYatuneshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18359958270880452781noreply@blogger.com2
